Quit Smoking - Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a 3000-year old technique and only recently is found useful for addictions. Over 40 addictions and disorders have been listed by the World Health Organisation that can be cured by acupuncture. These include chronic pain, back pain, headaches, hypertension, digestive disorders, depression, insomnia, allergies and Smoking.

Smoking can be effectively stopped by acupuncture method. Smoking is not a disease but an addiction. Nicotine the drug found in cigarettes is responsible for this addiction. It does no harm immediately, but has long term effects. It develops many chronic lung diseases, atherosclerosis and the most deadly- LUNG CANCER.

Method
Acupuncture to stop smoking is effectively used by many skilled practitioners against smoking. Its effectiveness is seen from the fact that out of 10 patients 7 quit smoking within 2 to 3 weeks.

The cravings for tobacco are decreased by acupuncture. Also the withdrawal symptoms are lessened as it acts as a sedative on the nervous system. Acupuncture treatment releases Betaendorphin, a hormone causing physical relaxation, which reduces the sensitivity to pain.

Treatment

A sterile disposable needle is inserted into some special points on the hand, wrist and ear. Sometimes a mild electric current is passed through these needles for better effects. The treatment longs for about 30 minutes.
Minute Retainer Needles are inserted into the ears which are kept there for a few days. These provide a constant stimulus to the points, thus reducing withdrawal symptoms.

During the first week, when the withdrawal symptoms are at their peak 3 treatments are given and then 2 treatments as follow-ups are given during the second week. Follow-up visits for 2 to 3 months are recommended for a long term effect.

The problem of weight gain is reduced due to acupuncture, as the points reducing the craving for nicotine also help to reduce food craving.
